Unity Team and Macey Swanson and Allman Resolve Guards' Claim

INDIANA CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS RECEIVE SETTLEMENT FOR PRE- AND POST-SHIFT DUTIES PERFORMED AFTER THE ELIMINATION OF ROLL CALL

Indiana Department of Correction (DOC) officers recently received a settlement from the State of Indiana in connection with complaints they previously filed to challenge their failure to receive just compensation for duties they had to perform before and after the start of their respective shifts without compensation. These complaints were originally filed with the State Employees’ Appeals Commission (SEAC) in 2005 and 2006 after the State of Indiana eliminated a compensated pre-shift roll call period.

Sixty-eight (68) guards had complaints pending before SEAC for claims arising prior to November 30, 2006. These guards received their share of the settlement sum for the period beginning thirty (30) days before the filing of their complaint through November 30, 2006.

This settlement could not have been possible without the assistance of the Unity Team, which obtained this firm to investigate this matter and provided the resources necessary to litigate and settle the pending complaints.

If you are a DOC officer or guard and you believe that you are entitled to compensation for pre- and/or post-shift duties you are required to perform, please contact Robert Hicks at (317)637-2345.
